Last week, I was in Baltimore for the annual meeting of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops. Over 230 cardinals, archbishops, bishops, and auxiliary bishops representing the 194 archdioceses and dioceses of America attended the four-day conference. I arrived a day early to attend the Subcommittee on Native American Affairs meeting. I also visited Monica Tozzi, the mother of Fr. Ross Tozzi, who lives in Baltimore. My room was on the 18th floor of the hotel. The tallest building in northern Alaska only has eight floors! Although Baltimore is far away – over 3,200 miles and four time zones from Fairbanks – the grace of Jesus Christ and the love of God the Father spans all times and distances.
