Last February I waited three days in Bethel for a flight to Hooper Bay. A storm had blown through the Yukon-Kuskokwim Delta and grounded the flights. In the aftermath, crews in the villages worked furiously in freezing fog and rain to clear their airfields. Due to the changing conditions, there was always the possibility flights would resume so the days were spent in the Grant Air terminal waiting with dozens of other travelers. I ran into parishioners from Toksook Bay, Hooper Bay, Nightmute, and Chevak. We chatted, waited, chatted, and waited some more. At last, my flight departed on the afternoon of Day Three.
Waiting for the weather to clear with parishioners Mary and Charlotte from Chevak. On our way!
