The ministry of the Office of Worship is to provide resources, consultation, and educational opportunities for parishes as a means of implementing the vision put forth by the Constitution on Sacred Liturgy which calls for "full, conscious and active participation" of all the faithful during public prayer and worship.

The mission of the Office of Worship is to:
  • Work with the Bishop regarding liturgical matters and support him in his role as the chief liturgist of the diocese.
  • Model good liturgy through the planning and coordination of diocesan liturgical celebrations: Rite of Election, Call to Continuing Conversion, Chrism Mass at
  • Cathedral, Chrism Mass in Y-K Delta, Ordinations, Fireweed Family Festival, and other diocesan events.
  • Know and support the mission and goals of the diocese through liturgy, retreats, prayer services and gatherings that help raise the consciousness of the diocese.
  • Provide Formation, Resources and Consultation.
    • For liturgical ministers (deacons, lay presiders, lectors, extraordinary ministers of the Eucharist, hospitality ministers, altar servers, musicians, and ministers of environment and art).
    • For parish staffs, liturgy committees, RCIA (for adults and children), and ministry training programs.
    • For Celebrations of Word and Communion in communities without an ordained priest.
  • Collaborate with Office of Religious Education to form and update policies and guidelines for liturgy and sacraments.
  • Meet regularly with the Spiritual Ministries Unit to share and assess needs.
  • Consult with Diocesan Engineer and parish building committees regarding the liturgical requirements for new church construction or renovation.
  • Study liturgical documents and engage in ongoing learning about liturgy in the larger church context.
  • Represent the diocese at national and regional liturgical gatherings.
  • Make time and space available for distribution of liturgical vestments, vessels, etc.
