Urban Native Ministry
The Office of Urban Native Ministry is meant to address the ministerial needs of our indigenous people living in Fairbanks and in the surrounding road-system parishes. Specific focuses include:
- Supervise and direct monthly meetings of the Kateri Tekakwitha Circle (KTC) of Fairbanks;
- Meet with Board Members of KTC every month to evaluate progress of its activities, e.g., raising money each year to send at least one member to the National Kateri Tekakwitha Convention.
- Facilitate other activities for Native people during each month, e.g., Talking Circles, Prayer sessions incorporating Native culture and spirituality.
- Periodically visit Native Corporate offices in Fairbanks; also attend important Native meetings.
- Attend Native potlatches when possible.
- When asked, visit Native people in the hospital, especially those most sick or dying.
- Become actively involved in the annual Alaska Federation of Natives (AFN) meeting, providing, along with the KTC members, an all-inclusive potlatch during the week-long sessions.
