31 August 2018

Dear Brothers & Sisters in Christ,

I have asked the Legion of Mary to join in conjunction with the various parishes and organizations of the diocese to sponsor a Rosary Congress for the Diocese of Fairbanks. I invite you to join with the Rosary Congress of the USA in a nationwide effort to heal the Church in our country, and to enliven the faithful to new vigor and zeal for Christ, through Our Lady’s intercession.

Sunday 7 October is the Feast Day of Our Lady of the Rosary also known as Our Lady of Lepanto in which a decisive battle was won in 1571. This battle between the invading Turks and Catholic Italy was won by the miraculous intercession of our Lady. Pope Pius V asked the whole church to pray for victory and a decisive victory was had not by military might, but by her intercession. Now we who battle the forces of evil today in our land ask for her intercession to free us from sin.

I have asked for this Congress to be a three day prayer renewal with perpetual adoration throughout the weekend beginning on Friday, 5 October and ending 7 October at 5:00 PM at Sacred Heart Cathedral . The Legion of Mary has created a schedule in which I ask you to participate.

Yes, this is a challenge for us to accomplish, but with renewed vigor and drive in light of the many scandals and sins not merely from outside the Church but from within the Church, including the hierarchy, I encourage each parish to fully participate in this event.

This Congress is to inspire prayer, penance, and repentance not only for ourselves but for the scandals and sins within our community, country, and Catholic Church. As we know, Pope John Paul taught that the New Evangelization begins with repentance which leads to healing. The purpose of this congress is not only to help individuals in our parish to heal, but to heal the wounds within our diocese and country, along with all the woundedness in our world.

This event will begin on Friday, 5 October at 7:30 AM with Mass at Sacred Heart Cathedral and finish on Sunday Evening, 7 October at 5:00 PM with the closing Mass.

Throughout the three days we will have exposition of the Holy Eucharist, the recitation of the Rosary, the Divine Mercy Chaplet, Stations of the Cross, Morning Prayer, Evening Vespers, and silence. Confessions will also be offered.

We ask that all parishes outside the Road System participate in our Rosary Congress by having a Holy Hour with Exposition, the recitation of the Rosary and Divine Mercy Chaplet on Sunday afternoon from 3:00 PM – 4:00 PM.
