My Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

I am reminded of the passage in St. Luke's gospel where the angel announces to the shepherds, "I proclaim to you good news!" In this case, my news is the U.S. Bankruptcy judge has approved our consensual Chapter 11 reorganization plan. We have put the legal and financial aspects of a shameful chapter of our past behind us.

However, it is altogether fitting this news comes during the Lenten season because the road before us is somber and respectful as we reach out to those harmed by volunteers, workers and ministers of the Church. We must pray continually for these survivors of heinous acts. We must approach these members of our family with respect as we ask for their forgiveness. We must repeatedly say to them, you suffered through no fault of your own. Finally, as St. Benedict tells us, we must listen with the ear of the heart as we hear from them how we can begin the process of healing and restoring trust.

You will find on this website my letter to the survivors. In addition, we have placed here a list of all those who have been accused of harming others. As I put my schedule together to travel to the villages, I will also be posting that itinerary here.

My focus now is forward, towards hope, towards healing, towards an ever-deepening restoration of faith and trust between the Church and the people of God.
